Match Report

Albion won the toss and it was
clear in the first minute, when
they swept down the field with
wing to wing masses, that they
wore going to be dangerous.
Nantwich came into the attack
when Bird was forced to jump
for a high shot but Albion were
the more dangerous team in
front of goal, and it was no sur-
prise when Williams scored with
a fast shot from close in, giving
the Nantwich goalkeeper no
chance.
Despite the weight advantage
of the visiting defenders they
were bamboozled into rushing
hasty kicking by the
superior tactics of the Albion for-
wards, Williams and Howarth.
Nevertheless, Bird was kept busy
with a series of chance long
shots which might have had
devastating results.

THE MAINSTAY

Morgan, coming in at centre
half in place of Slater, was
defensive mainstay.
Combining well with Winstanley
and Bennett, this trio was res-
ponsible for providing their for-
wards with defence-splitting
passes.
In the 20th minute the Nantwich
goal had two narrow escapes
when Owen hit the ball over
to Lomas who gave it to Williams
but he was too slow and the de-
fenders covered up. He nearly
made up for it a few seconds
later when he fired in a sizzling
20 yard drive which just skimmed
the bar.
Ron Williams equalised for the
visitors after 22 minutes follow-
ing a passing movement which
caught the Albion napping. Five
minutes before the interval Owen
gave the ball to Lomas who
slipped in the mud with only the
goalkeeper to beat.
It was all Albion after the
interval.

THE WINNER
After 20 minutes in this half
Johnny Howarth scored Albion's
winner with a picture goal. He
ran down the middle, evading two
tackles en route, drew the goal-
keeper out and calmly hit the
ball into the left hand corner of
the net.
Albion played fast, clean foot-
throughout.
