Biography
Kept goal for the Nantwich youth team that was trounced 23-0 by Manchester United in the 1952 FA Youth Cup. From all accounts he played well and Matt Busby took him on trial. He kept goal for United’s ‘A’ side but didn’t make the breakthrough at Old Trafford, though, and returned to don the gloves with the Dabbers.
A resident of West Street in Crewe, he had represented Crewe Schoolboys as a youngster. Served in the Scots Guards and moved to London in later life.
