Biography

Syd played for Crewe Corinthians (46/47), Crewe Grammar School Old Boys and Fodens (49/50) before joining Nantwich in the summer of 1951. Was the Dabbers’ top scorer in the 52/53 Mid-Cheshire League campaign. Moved on to become Crewe Alexandra ‘A’ (55/56) player coach in the summer of 1955, then becoming Assistant Manager (1956-57) of the Mid-Cheshire League team. A teacher by profession, he served as a pilot in Bomber Command during World War 2.
