Nantwich enjoyed a good opening in the first quarter hour winning three consecutive corners-albeit without capitalising on their chances, meanwhile, at the other end, midfielder JIMMY BEADLE let fly with a shot from distance, the ball beating BEN CHAPMAN before skimming the outside of a post.

The ‘Dabbers’ continued to dominate play, albeit without making a breakthrough – Whitby’s 20 year old full back IBRAHIM HASSAN’S pace regularly interrupting the run’s of RODNEY JACK whilst ‘Dabbers’ left back DAVE TICKLE’S 20th minute promising looking move out of defence came to an abrupt halt thanks’ to an offside flag.

INCIDENT: 38 Minutes. Whitby reduced to 10 men. JAKE SEDGEMORE played a short pass to LEE McANULTY – BEADLE awarded a straight red card for a high challenge on McANULTY with his studs showing.

INCIDENT: 43 Minutes. Whitby reduced to 9 men after IBRAHIM HASSAN awarded a straight red card for denying Michael Lennon a genuine goal scoring opportunity. HASSAN was the last defender when he hauled LENNON back as he made his run toward goal.

After the break, Whitby came out as though they still had a full complement of players meanwhile, DAVE WHITTAKER spurned a great opportunity to put Nantwich ahead when he inexplicably wasted a LENNON pass by blazing over the bar from less than five yards before GLYN BLACKHURST fired straight at Whitby ‘keeper DAVID CAMPBELL.

INCIDENT: 70 Minutes. Whitby reduced to 8 men when ANDY McWILLIAMS adjudged to have handled the ball on the line. JAKE SEDGEMORE scored from the penalty spot to put Nantwich in front.

GOAL: 76 Minutes. Nantwich defender RICHIE SUTTON collected the ball on the halfway line from a SEDGMORE pass before driving a superb shot from 25 yards straight past CAMPBELL into the roof of the net to put the ‘Dabbers’ further ahead.


Meanwhile, MARVIN ROBINSON replaced LENNON in attack and almost immediately had two goals ruled out for alleged offside before missing a golden chance to get on the score sheet when missing the target.

GOAL: 90 + 2. BLACKHURST won the ball on the halfway line before passing to substitute OMAR MAHMOUD. MAHMOUD then returning the ball to BLACKHURST who in turn held the ball up before delivering into the path of the overlapping MAHMOUD whose clinical finish flashed past CAMPBELL into the roof of the net.
