Nantwich were looking to return to winning ways following their disappointing performance in the midweek defeat at FC United. Ahead of the match Neville Clarke was presented with a bottle of whisky and decanter to mark his 50 years continuous service to the club.

The ‘Dabbers’ were first to show when Jake Sedgemore latched on to a Dave Tickle corner but the effort was off target.

GOAL: 15 Minutes. Nantwich took the lead through a superb Sedgemore free kick. In the build up Glyn Blackhurst and Ashley Carter combined before Carter was fouled just outside the area. Sedgemore took the dead ball kick and finished by rifling the ball past Steve Wilson into the top corner of the net.

North Ferriby then had an opportunity to draw level through defender Sam Denton’s free kick but Lee Jones reacted smartly to push the effort wide. Meanwhile, at the other end, Michael Lennon had an opportunity to put Nantwich further ahead but blazed his shot over the bar when well placed.

Just before the half hour North Ferriby were awarded a free kick 10 yards outside the area but Gary Bradshaw’s dead ball kick hit the defensive wall before diverting for a corner. From the corner Denton headed over the bar from close range.

GOAL: 32 minutes. Nantwich pushed North Ferriby on the defensive during which Carter evaded a North Ferriby defender before delivering a perfect cross into the path of Chris Flynn who slid the ball home at the far post.

GOAL: 39 minutes. Michael Lennon made it 3-0 when he chipped Wilson from the edge of the area.

GOAL: 65 minutes. North Ferriby reduced the deficit through a Gary Bradshaw penalty after Dave McPherson was adjudged to have fouled in the area.

GOAL: 69 minutes. Michael Lennon completed a brace after good work between on loan Crewe Alexandra defender Kelvin Mellor and Carter allowed Lennon to place a low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

Nantwich were unlucky not to stretch their lead further when an 85th minute Flynn close range effort hit the bar. Meanwhile, at the other end, Jones pulled off a fantastic block, albeit at the expense of a corner, to deny a Denton free kick.

GOAL: 90+1. Lack of concentration allowed North Ferriby’s Thomas Mathews to steal in and latch on to Sedgemore’s back header to Jones before scrambling the ball over the line.
