Nantwich Town 0 – 0 Frickley Athletic
A fine double save from Frickley’s Stephen Dickinson prevented Nantwich from taking all three points in a tense affair at the Weaver Stadium.
Dickinson saved first from Michael Lennon and then Si Everall as the Dabbers looked to snatch a late winner in a game they had largely dominated.
Nantwich started brightly and Lennon’s shot from Zak Foster’s cross was saved by Dickinson on just four minutes.
Everall was lively throughout but lacked an end product as he bent Mat Bailey’s knock down wide.
Frickley rarely tested Dabbers keeper Jon Brain and Ryan Mallon’s 25 yard strike was about as close as they come in the early stages.
The game struggled to gain any real tempo as both sides couldn’t get a foot on the ball, James Ashmore’s long range effort forced a save from Brain but it was as close as the West Yorkshire side came.
The Dabbers came closest on the stroke of half-time as Dave MacPherson was fouled by Frickley captain Stuart Ludlam and the resulting free-kick was smashed against the post by Andy White.
Nantwich pushed for a winner as the second-half progressed but they lacked a cutting edge, Matt Lowe flashed across Dickinson’s goal on the hour mark but failed to hit the target.
Sean Cooke came on for the Dabbers and he went close almost immediately, he turned on to his right foot inside the penalty area and smashed just wide.
Lowe and Everall both went close in stoppage time but Nantwich didn’t quite break the deadlock and had to settle for a point.
