The opening quarter hour witnessed little or no action in and around both boxes with the exception of one incident when BEN CHAPMAN was called upon to make a low save to his right. Meanwhile, on a very hard and difficult surface, play continued to switch ends until the 18th minute when Nantwich began to assert themselves - first with a great cross from GLYN BLACKHURST toward MARVIN ROBINSON before ROBINSON was shepherded away from goal followed by what appeared to be a clear cut case for a penalty after Lee McANULTY’S pass to JAKE SEDGEMORE continued with SEDGMORE picking out CHRIS FLYNN around 10 yards out before a push in the back interrupted FLYNN’S attempt to place a header on target but despite appeals, the referee allowed play to continue.

Just after the half hour a couple of SEDGEMORE free kicks looked promising – in the first, his dead ball kick crept over the bar whilst in the second, a short ball to ‘Dabbers’ captain DARREN TINSON was played on by TINSON but evaded the target by the narrowest of margins. Meanwhile, CHAPMAN was fortunate when a centre from the right sailed over his outstretched hands – fortunately there was no Ossett player on hand to take advantage. Ossett had appeals for a penalty brushed aside when TINSON was alleged to have fouled in the area but overall it was the pitch that was the winner as both sides fought hard to keep the ball in play.

Just after the hour, Ossett custodian STEVE KERR denied Nantwich the lead when he saved a SEDGEMORE penalty after RODNEY JACK was brought down in the box. KERR parried the ball before it was scrambled off the line whilst moments later BLACKHURST struck a post with a shot from distance.

Nantwich looked the stronger of the two sides in the second half but too many stray passes kept chances to a minimum. Ossett, to their credit, were lively and competitive and at times caused the Nantwich rearguard problems, albeit without clear cut opportunities. Nantwich brought on MICHAEL LENNON for the hard working NATHAN SOUTHERN late in the game whilst OMAR MAHMOUD eventually replaced JACK.

Seven minutes before full time ROBINSON steered a short range header wide of the target from a BLACKHURST cross.

GOAL: 90 + 1. Substitute OMAR MAHMOUD ensured Nantwich remained unbeaten in six matches when he cracked home a LENNON ball from the edge of the box to secure maximum points for the ‘Dabbers’. The result gives Nantwich 16 points from a possible 18 in their last six games – secures 10th place in the division and sign off on the final day of the season as the in form team in the UniBond League Premier Division.
