Biography

Jimmy was on Liverpool’s books as a boy and joined Stoke City (1958-59:8,1) in October 1955. Signed for Northwich Victoria (1960-62:137,12) before returning to League football with Doncaster Rovers (62/63:14,1) in March 1963. The winger later served Stafford Rangers before taking up his first managerial role with Ball Haye Green.
Then managed Eastwood Hanley for six seasons before being appointed Nantwich Manager in the summer of 1980. Guided the Dabbers to the Cheshire County League title for the only time in his first season. Unsurprisingly, he was named Cheshire County League Manager of the Season for 1980/81 but left in November 1981 to become Manager at Leek Town (1981-84).
Was Assistant Manager at Eastwood Hanley for three seasons before being appointed Joint-Manager with John Ridley in November 1990. After being given sole charge, was awarded the NWCL Manager of the Month for March 1994. After the club folded, he later took over the reins at Kidsgrove Athletic in the 1997 close season, picking up the NWCL Manager of the Month Award for September 1997 as he led ‘Grove to the 1997/98 NW Counties League title. Moved in to the hotseat at Newcastle Town (2000-02), earning the NWCL Manager of the Month for October 2002 before moving ‘upstairs’ to the role of General manager in March 2003.
