Biography
On the books of Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers as a junior, he represented Manchester schoolboys and joined Rochdale’s youth set-up, signing professional forms for the Spotland club in August 1977. Made a solitary League substitute appearance for Rochdale that season. Short spells followed at Huddersfield Town and Blackpool but, unable to add to his League appearance, he signed for Chorley in the 79/80 season, being named the club’s Player of the Year.
A £1000 transfer fee took him to Altrincham (1981-89:327,1) late in the 81/82 campaign and he became a mainstay of the Robins’ defence in their successful side in the early years of the Alliance Premier League, twice being named their Player of the Year. In 86/87 he gained three England semi-professional caps and in October 1989 a transfer fee of £3250 took him to Witton Albion (1989-91:118+6,0). Witton’s Player of the Year in 89/90, he helped them to the Northern Premier League title and promotion to the Conference the following season.
Moved on to Chorley (92/93) and then to Horwich RMI (94/95) before joining Mossley as player-manager in March 1995. He was unable to keep Mossley from relegation and was replaced as manager in August 1995 but he remained with Mossley (1994-95:18,0) as a player until October 1995 when he joined Fleetwood Town and then Congleton Town (1995-96:58,0). Switched to Ramsbottom United in September 1997, soon becoming club captain and then Assistant Manager.
Appointed Player-Manager of Nantwich in January 1999 but was sacked in July 2000. An engineer by profession, he returned to Altrincham as a coach to their reserve side, taking over as reserve team manager in October 2001 and was later assistant manager of Abbey Hey.
