A stunning second-half brace by substitute Chris Amadi was enough to earn Ashton United all three points at Nantwich Town.
The former FC United of Manchester forward broke the deadlock at the Weaver Stadium with a powerful half-volley and then made sure of the win with a terrific solo effort.
Nantwich began the game brightly and almost went ahead on 15 minutes, when Aaron Cole’s fizzing cross was deflected just wide by the head of Ashton captain Craig Robinson.
Moments later, Nicky Platt’s outswinging corner fell to Brandon Windsor, who unleashed a stinging volley, which forced Paul Phillips into an instinctive fingertip save.
Scott Hogan should have put the visitors in front midway through the first half, but, under pressure from goalkeeper Jon Brain, he looped his shot narrowly wide.
On-loan Stockport County wide man Alex Meaney, who was making his Nantwich debut, then came very close with an audacious lob from 45 yards.
Meaney threatened with another long-range effort soon after half time, but Ashton quickly improved following Amadi’s introduction on the hour-mark.
Amadi latched onto Michael Connor’s knock-down to fire the Robins ahead on 76 minutes.
He doubled his tally three minutes from time with a brilliant counter-attacking goal.
Amadi collected possession from Aaron Burns inside his own half and then sprinted beyond right-back Charlie Raglan, before beating Brain with a crisp finish using the outside of his right boot.
The win moves Ashton to within three points of the final play-off spot, while Nantwich drop one place to 15th
