Match Report

WORKSOP TOWN 0 - 0 NANTWICH TOWN
Evo-Stik Premier League Wednesday 13th April 2011

The Tigers had to settle for a goalless draw at home to lowly Nantwich Town in a game that was a real end of season affair.

There was just one change in Worksop personnel with Danny Bacon returning after illness in place of Chris Bettney. This meant a change of formation with manager Martin McIntosh going with a 4-3-3 line up.

Despite their position near the relegation zone the visitors packed their defence and relied on breakaways but keeper Jon Kennedy hardly had a save to make all night.

The Tigers had two goals chalked off for offside in the first half with Luke Beckett’s header from a Ben Tomlinson cross the first one and Tomlinson himself following a pass from Michael Simpkins.

A minute after his header was disallowed Beckett limped off with a hamstring problem and was replaced by Mikel Suarez.

The visitors had a couple of efforts off target from Jake Sedgmore and Glyn Blackhurst.

Tomlinson, Jackson and Bacon went close for the Tigers in a first half full of errors on a hard bumpy pitch.

The second half was again far from entertaining as the visitors were desperately fighting for a point.

Despite an error from Platt in the Nantwich goal, Jamie Jackson couldn’t take advantage, Danny Bacon’s free kick was an easy catch for Platt , then Tomlinson burst through on Suarez’s flick on, but again the flag went up for offside as Platt pushed his shot onto the crossbar.

At the other end Jason Oswell and Ashley Carter saw their shots sail high over Kennedy’s crossbar into the car park.

Marc Thompson saw his shot brilliantly saved by Platt, Michael Simpkins had a header saved, Suarez volleyed inches over, Bacon chipped one wide and was then thwarted by Platt as he went through on goal.
