The game started in lively fashion – Nantwich winning a couple of free kicks in the first two minutes and from the second Boston were lucky to survive following a scramble in the box.

15.05pm. Nantwich debutant DANNY STOCKHALL’S goal ruled out after he was adjudged to have fouled Boston left back JAMES CULLINWORTH before putting the ball in the net.

Nantwich then had a great chance to go ahead when MICHAEL LENNON rounded goalkeeper TOM EVANS and with the goal at his mercy fired goalwards but just as the ball was about to enter the net defender SHAUN PEARSON hacked it off the line. Meanwhile, play switched to the other end where DANNY DAVIDSON was denied on the line by ‘Dabbers’ captain DARREN TINSON. DAVIDSON stabbed wide from a SPENCER WEIR-DALEY cross

GOAL: 17 Minutes. Boston went ahead through MARC NEWSHAM after WEIR-DALEY had wriggled his way through the Nantwich defence before drilling the ball across the face of goal leaving NEWSHAM to tap home from close range.

Two minutes after the goal Nantwich were awarded a free kick after PEARSON hauled down DAVE WHITTAKER. CHRIS FLYNN took the kick but the shot from 35 yards out unfortunately curled high and wide of the target. Moments later Nantwich won a further dead ball kick after CHRIS WOOD had climbed all over ASHLEY CARTER – from the free kick CARTER put the ball in the net but for the second time in the half the goal was ruled out – on this occasion for an alleged foul by GLYN BLACKHURST.

On 24 minutes WEIR-DALEY was brought down on the edge of the box by Nantwich right back AARON CARTER who was awarded a yellow card for his sin – fortunately there were covering defenders meanwhile JAMIE YATES wasted his free kick and then LENNON was caught offside as was DAVIDSON moments later as the game continued to swing from end to end.

Just past the half hour TICKLE was shown a yellow card for upending YATES in full flight. YATES got to his feet to take the free kick which was headed over the bar by PEARSON after meeting DANNY SLEATH’S cross.

Five minutes before the break CHAPMAN rushed out of his area – DAVIDSON rounded him but AARON CARTER did well to put the big forward off – albeit at the expense of a corner and then CARTER performing well to clear towering defender LEE CANOVILLE’S header off the line. DAVISON then fouled RICHIE SUTTON whilst WOOD then put in a firm challenge on LENNON before Nantwich won a couple of throw in’s and then PEARSON and WOOD denying the lively LENNON during two minutes of added time.

STOCKHALL was booked three minutes into the second period and at the same time Nantwich made a substitution when JAKE SEDGEMORE replaced TINSON. Meanwhile, LENNON was a whisker away with a header from STOCKHALL’S cross whilst at the other end ANTHONY CHURCH’S cross was blocked by SUTTON and the follow-up held by CHAPMAN. CULLINGWORTH’S deep centre was nodded down by PEARSON followed by DAVIDSON whose close range effort was denied and then NEWSHAM and SUTTON colliding in the aftermath –without SUTTON’S presence NEWSHAM may well have scored.

GOAL: 58 Minutes. CHURCH’S headed through ball met by DAVIDSON who rounded the stranded CHAPMAN to give the home side the edge.

On the hour Boston had an opportunity to go further ahead after WOOD’S cross was headed mere inches over the bar.

GOAL: 70 Minutes. WEIR-DALEY, 15 yards out and from a completely unmarked position, had the easiest of tasks to drive home WOOD’S long throw to effectively put the game out of reach of Nantwich. Static defending by the ‘Dabbers’.

Heavy rain then began to fall but despite the conditions Boston continued to push forward and a stinging shot by YATES was parried by under siege CHAPMAN and then NEWSHAM flagged offside from the rebound.

GOAL: 72 Minutes. Boston were now in control and following blocked shots from WEIR-DALEY and CHURCH, DANNY SLEATH produced a low strike from inside the box to beat CHAPMAN.

DANNY GRIGGS replaced STOCKHALL in the 76th minute and then four minutes later earned a yellow card for a foul on YATES followed by FLYNN who was booked for a challenge on CHURCH. Four minutes from normal time DAVIDSON struck narrowly wide followed by substitute GARETH DAVIES whose effort fell wide. Nantwich by now were really being given the run around. However, two minutes from normal time and with the rain teeming down Nantwich won a corner from which JAKE SEDGEMORE’S header was blocked on the line. A minute into added time and the rain was now torrential, however, it didn’t prevent WEIR-DALEY from going close with a sliding effort.

GOAL: 90 + 4. Substitute MIKEL SUAREZ inflicted further misery on Nantwich when he headed RYAN SEMPLE’S cross into the net to complete the double over Nantwich during which the ‘Pilgrims’ scored nine goals without reply.
