Match goalless at 30 minutes – neither goalmouth witnessing any serious threats with the exception of an opportunity presented to DAVE WHITTAKER in the 15th minute but placed his header wide from a corner.

Play was generally sandwiched between both 18 yard areas however MICHAEL LENNON broke into the Burscough area in the 35th minute to send a cross to the far post – RODNEY JACK just about getting a toe to the ball but in the absence of a full purchase the chance went begging.

GOAL: 39 Minutes. Poor defending gifted the home side the lead when Burscough striker DARREN BYERS robbed Nantwich captain DARREN TINSON of the ball – BYERS presented with a one on one with LLOYD-WESTON before calmly rolling the ball past the on loan Port Vale ‘keeper.

INCIDENT: In first half added time Burscough were reduced to 10 men when midfielder LEWIS FIELD was dismissed for serious foul play involving Nantwich left back CHRIS FLYNN.

Nantwich were forced to make a change at the start of the second half – substitute DANNY GRIGGS – wearing the green again after leaving CONGLETON TOWN last week – replaced JACK who suffered a slight pull in the first half. Meanwhile, a ROSS DAVIDSON strike flew off the bar whilst a normally fairly accurate free kick by JAKE SEDGEMORE ended off target and then, in a surprise move, Burscough – playing 4-4-1 following FIELD’S dismissal - replaced goal scorer DARREN BYERS just before the hour.

INCIDENT: For the second time in the space of 4 day’s the match referee had to be replaced due to injury thus delaying proceedings for almost a quarter of an hour.

Burscough, packing the midfield at every opportunity, continued to retain their single goal advantage. Meanwhile, TINSON went close to atoning for his earlier mistake when his close range shot from a SEDGMORE corner was hacked off the line. Despite gaining a trio of corners late in the game Nantwich failed to break a resilient Burscough down. GRIGGS was unfortunate with a shot that struck a post following a pass from substitute striker SAM MADELEY whilst the busy LENNON continued his search for an opening. Frustratingly, not for the first time this season, Nantwich Town’s passing game was sorely absent leaving 10 men relegation haunted Burscough to claim the points.
