Nantwich stunned the home side by taking a first minute lead. From the whistle, Quorn had
taken just two touches of the ball before Paul Taylor intercepted just inside the opposing half
and slid the ball into the path of Andy Kinsey. In turn, Kinsey brought the overlapping Ashley
Carter into play on the right hand edge of their area before ‘Ash’ swept in from an acute angle to
fire a shot behind the Quorn defence and across the bows of goal keeper Lee Wilson, into the
opposite corner of the net.

Quorn responded quickly but, midfielder Gavin 0’Toole’s 3rd minute strike was comfortably held
by Lee Jones. In a further Quorn attack, Richard Smith conceded a foul on the left edge of our
18 yard area but, O’Toole’s free kick was easily cleared by our resolute back line meanwhile,
Quorn winger Paul White produced a 20 yard volley that failed to threaten ‘Jonah’ as the home
side sought an early equalizer. Our hosts persisted with a series of forward moves during which,
‘Georgy’ Kiss elected to turn the ball behind for a corner after an initial attempt by our defence
failed to clear our lines. The resultant flag however, failed to threaten but, Quorn striker Liam
Turner was quick to seize on a loose ball before shooting wide from close range.

From the goal kick, ‘Jonah’ produced a lengthy left foot punt down field before finding Andy
Kinsey, whose first time shot unfortunately powered wide of the target. In a momentary lapse
around the 20th minute mark,’ The Dabbers’ were second to the ball before recovering and
setting up an attack that created a goal mouth scramble in which ‘Kins’ and ‘Pav’ Suhaj had
opportunities. But, it was ‘Georgy’ Kiss who really did deserve to get his name on the score
sheet in the 24th minute when he produced a fierce left foot drive at the target before witnessing
his great shot from an angle strike the underside of the bar, before crashing to the ground,
merely inches the wrong side of the line. However, ‘Georgy’ was instrumental in creating our
second goal in the 26th minute. Lee Wilson, who was deputizing for the suspended regular
Quorn custodian, failed to hold a left wing cross from ‘Georgy’ Kiss leaving the attendant ‘Ash’
Carter to head home our second goal of the afternoon. Quorn responded immediately by
reducing the deficit in the 27th minute. From the restart, the home side powered forward and
after our defence failed to make a clearance, Quorn striker Gary Griffiths was given time and
space to fire a dipping shot past Lee Jones from around 15 yards. Paul Taylor received a
caution for an alleged foul on Quorn midfielder Chris Goodman, at a time when a little tension
began to creep into the competitive encounter.

A 35th minute Quorn free kick taken by O’Toole was dispatched cross field to White whose right
sided shot flew across the face of our goal before clearing the bar but, it was yet another
warning sign from Quorn, who were demonstrating they were not prepared to play second best.
But, five minutes from the break, ‘Pav’ Suhaj played in Andy Kinsey with a well timed flick on
before ‘Kins’ first time shot was agonizingly blocked inside the Quorn 6 yard box.. But, ‘Kins’
made no mistake in the 42nd minute. A through ball from midfield reached our tenacious number
nine who drew Wilson toward the right hand edge of his area before attempting to shoot beyond
the committed goal keeper. However, the shot was initially blocked by Wilson after he dived at
the feet of Andy Kinsey but, the Quorn number one failed to hold on to the ball after ‘Kins’
teased the ball from his grasp with his right foot before rolling it into space and shooting into an
empty net to restore our two goal advantage. A minute from the break, ‘Pav’ was unfortunate to
witness a strike from inside the area flash inches wide of the target whilst in an other attempt, a
firm shot from similar distance struck a defender in the chest before reaching safety, at a point
in the game when the opposing defenders were in retreat.
Quorn worked hard to claw back the deficit but, for the most part, ‘The Dabbers’ were in control,
looking solid throughout. Glyn Blackhurst was unfortunate to see his 47th minute close range
strike turned behind for a corner. A 55th minute Paul Taylor free kick beat the wall before
dropping into the ‘keepers arms and then Wilson was called into action on the hour after a ‘Kins’
close range shot forced him down on his line for the save. O’Toole was cautioned for an alleged
foul on ‘Pav’ Suhaj in the 64th minute as matters began to warm up a little in the middle of the
park. ‘Georgy’ Kiss did well to halt the run of Quorn midfielder Brett Darby in the 72nd minute
whilst a minute later, Lee Jones effected a clearance from the edge of our 6 yard box after
Turner had initially faced him with a shot from the edge of our 18 yard area.
Meanwhile, at the other end, ‘Pav’ Suhaj came so agonizingly close to scoring via a brilliant fee
kick, awarded following a foul on Andy Kinsey. ‘Pav’, a rare taker of ‘Dabbers’ free kicks struck
the sweetest dead ball , the effort dipping over the wall before flying off the angle of post and
bar for a goal kick. What a goal that would have made had it crept into the top far corner of the
net instead! Within seconds of replacing ‘Blacky,’ Adam Beasley won a corner over on the
Quorn right hand side before we lost advantage at a point when the home side were under
pressure. But, it was then the opposition’s turn to exert pressure, albeit late in the game, after
they won a right sided corner. However, Darby’s flag kick went straight into the arms of the
attendant ‘Jonah’ who in fairness had thus far enjoyed a relatively quiet afternoon. Paul White’s
89th minute attempt posed no danger after the shot from distance sailed over our cross bar.
Adam Beasley delivered the final blow to Quorn when he notched, what was for him, a rare but
nevertheless welcome goal, right on the stroke of normal time. In the build up to the goal, Quorn
failed to complete a clearance deep on their right hand side. Meanwhile, Andy Kinsey seized
the opportunity to bring ‘Beazo’ into play before leaving him to advance on goal and place a well
timed shot under the body of the diving Wilson.
The win stretches ‘The Dabbers’ unbeaten league run to 4 games during which we have scored
16 goals whilst conceding just three. Despite the win we remain in 5th position but, tantalizingly
just 2 points adrift of next weekend’s visitors to The Weaver Stadium, 4th placed Grantham
Town!
Steve Davis commented: “A good win after playing to our strength’s with the only blot on our
copy book, their goal. We didn’t play quite as much football as we are accustomed to but, our
growing maturity at this level was evident throughout most of the game”.
