Biography

Phil started his career as a junior with Crewe Alexandra before joining Reading as a YTS player. The former England Schools triallist had a year at Port Vale and was also at Middlewich Athletic (97/98). ‘Parky’ joined Nantwich’s youth team, progressing to the first team prior to signing for Newcastle Town in the summer of 2000.

After four years, the hard-working midfielder moved on to Alsager Town (04/05) from where he returned to Nantwich in the 2005 close season, captaining the club to FA Vase and Cheshire Senior Cup success as well as promotion from the NW Counties League and UniBond First Division.

Left for Congleton Town (09/10:29,0) in August 2009, moving on to Winsford United in March 2010 before signing for Witton Albion (10/11:3,0) in the 2010 close season.

In November 2010, joined Crewe FC in the Cheshire League but returned to Congleton (10/11:16,1) in January 2011. Featured for Lostock Gralam (11/12) in the Cheshire League, stepping up again with Kidsgrove Athletic in 12/13 before returning to the Weaver Stadium in the 2013 close season but re-joined Kidsgrove in September 2013 without having added to his 200 or so Nantwich appearances.

Appointed Manager of Alsager Town in January 2014, he guided them away from the NW Counties League relegation zone before stepping down from the role in the 2014 close season due to additional work commitments. Returned as a player for Newcastle Town in August 2014 but a couple of injuries forced him to hang up his boots in October 2014.

Appointed Nantwich Manager in February 2015, he lifted the club to the Evo-Stik Premier Play-offs in 2017 but departed in the 2017 close season to take charge at Altrincham securing the Evo-Stik Premier title in his first season in charge and promotion from the National League North in 2020. Despite bringing much success to the club, the Robins relieved him of his duties in October 2025 and, after a spell as Interim Manager of Fleetwood Town under-21s, he was appointed Manager of Chester in May 2026 after the conclusion of the National League North season.
