Nantwich saw off their West Midlands League visitors in a tight game at Jackson Avenue.
The Dabbers were first to warm up in the autumn sunshine as Ashley Lawton twice went close and Jon Dawson headed wide from Danny Griggs’ cross before star man Griggs grabbed the all-important goal midway through the half. Adam Vickers sprayed a quick free-kick wide to the right and Griggs took the ball in his stride to rifle past Jeremy Thomas in the Tipton goal. Thomas, though, came to Tipton’s rescue a minute later when Griggs was clean through after being set up by Nigel Gleghorn and he looked odds-on to bag his second.
As half-time approached, the visitors edged back into the game. Jordan Lee seemed to be bundled down in the box and then Mark Maguire came to the Dabbers’ rescue blocking a goalbound shot after Simon Pay had done well to block Lee’s effort. Then two minutes before the interval, Ravi Sangha wasted a glit-edged chance when he fired over from 8 yards after a clever chip from Lee Rollason had deceived Lyndon Hall.
Wayne Brown booted a Griggs’ drive off the goalline and Thomas’ outstretched leg foiled a 20 yarder from Vickers in a tight second half which came all the tenser as the match wore on and Tipton threatened an equaliser. Sub Don Bailey headed wide deep into stoppage time but Nantwich player-boss Gleghorn held his side firm to chalk up their first win in seven games.
