Biography
Ronnie played for Crewe Schoolboys and Cheshire Schoolboys before being selected to play with England Schoolboys. Signed for Manchester United at the age of 16, captaining United Youth in their record-breaking 23-0 win over Nantwich in the FA Youth Cup in November 1952.
Served Manchester United (1956-60:93,2lge) for 11 years before transferring to Luton Town in August 1961 for a £10,000 fee. Contractual reasons meant that he couldn’t play in the League after leaving Luton (1961-62:28,0lge) so in November 1963 he signed for Northwich Victoria (1963-67:237,14). Then served Witton Albion as a youth coach before returning to play Cheshire County League football with Winsford United (68/69).
Signed for the Dabbers in October 1968, making his debut in the 3-0 home win over Chester Reserves, 19/10/1968 and taking over the captain’s armband. Returned to Northwich (1969-70:9,0) as trainer for the 69/70 season, making an occasional appearance. Son of George Cope.
