Biography

A centre forward or left winger, Gil became well known round the non-league circuit with Bangor City, Winsford United and Witton Albion (64/65) before joining Nantwich in the summer of 1965. Moved on to Llandudno (65/66) and then appeared for Northwich Victoria (1968-69:16,2) (68/9:10,2, 69/0:6,0), New Brighton (69/70) and Witton (70/71) again before managing Mid-Cheshire League side Lostock Gralam (71/72).
Later was assistant to Sammy McIlroy at Northwich Victoria and Ashton United before following the former Northern Irish international to Macclesfield in May 1993. Spent eight years at the Moss Rose, including time as Manager from December 2000 to October 2001. Went on to hold senior coaching roles at a number of clubs including Stockport County, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers.
