Biography

A member of Nantwich’s youth side that lost 23-0 to Manchester United in November 1952. Ken well remembered Duncan Edwards' brilliance that wet November night at United's old training ground at The Cliff in Broughton. "We were little more than schoolkids but Edwards seemed huge. He'd really filled out and had legs like tree trunks. It was an honour to be on the same pitch as him. We were 10-0 down at half-time and I remember going into the changing rooms and saying to the other lads, 'Well at least it can't get any worse than that!' I was wrong, of course, as they scored 13 in the second half."

Ken had started at Tarporley Victoria at the age of 15, playing for Nantwich reserves the following season. Signed for Stoke City, making 25 appearances for the Potters’ ‘A’ team in 53/54 and five for the reserves in the Central League.

After returning to Nantwich, he then featured for Crewe Alexandra ‘A’ (1954-55) and Crewe Rovers (58/59) from where he returned to Nantwich in February 1959 and was appointed captain. Lived at Minshull Vernon in later life.
