Biography
Archie started out with ICI Alkali (1951-53) before joining Northwich Victoria (54/55:13,5). Moved to Witton Albion (1955-62:316,66) in the summer of 1955, becoming a stalwart of 316 appearances (251 lge, 65 cup) in eight seasons. Won Cheshire Senior Cup medals in 1956 and 1961 and scored 66 goals (47 lge, 19 cups) whilst at the Central Ground.
Represented Cheshire at amateur level and signed for Nantwich in the summer of 1963. He was part of the squad assembled by Alan Ball snr that won the ‘treble’ in 63/64. A commanding left half, his only Nantwich goals were a brace in the 3-2 win over Crewe Alex’s ‘A’ side in the Mid-Cheshire League Cup that season.
Later played for Winsford United.
