A spirited display by Nantwich Town was not enough to stop Chorley recording their fifth consecutive win in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League on Tuesday evening.
The Magpies claimed all three points at the Weaver Stadium courtesy of Andy Teague’s 42nd-minute strike, denying Darren Moss in his first game as the Dabbers’ caretaker boss.
Teague volleyed home from 10 yards, after the Dabbers defence had failed to deal with Adam Roscoe’s clever flick-on.
Nantwich started the game slowly and had to rely on a hat-trick of fine saves by goalkeeper Jon Brain to keep them level early on.
After denying Porya Ahmadi one-on-one, Brain made a couple off outstanding athletic stops to thwart Roscoe.
Player-manager Darren Moss then put his side under pressure with a short back-pass, but Charlie Raglan came to the rescue to clear Porya’s drilled effort off the goal line.
At the other end, the impressive Tom Bentham curled just wide from 25 yards moments later.
Teague’s opener gave Chorley a deserved half-time lead and the Magpies almost doubled their advantage in the opening stages of the second period, as Tom Baker struck the crossbar with a dipping free-kick.
However, Nantwich quickly improved. Joe Guest and Aaron Cole both forced superb fingertips saves out of Jack Cudworth from long range.
Simon Everall went close to snatching a point for the Dabbers late on, but the substitute’s low effort was well blocked.
