Biography

Tony was a naturally left footed player who began his career as a youth with Shrewsbury Town (1968-70:16,0) breaking into their League side before linking up with Port Vale in July 1971. After just one game he broke his collarbone but recovered to become a Port Vale (1971-73:91,5) regular prior to switching to Chester in December 1973 as part of an exchange deal that saw Neil Griffiths move in the opposite direction. His time at Chester (1973-76:125,5) included being an ever-present in their promotion season from Division Four and run to the League Cup semi-finals in 74/75.

Moved on to Halifax Town (1976-78:111,0) in October 1976, where he remained until joining Stafford Rangers (79/80:16,0lge) in 1979 to play in the newly formed Alliance Premier League. Served Droylsden from where Jimmy Wallace brought him to Nantwich in December 1980, making his debut in the 5-1 win at Curzon Ashton, 10/01/1981. Added experience and grit to the side that was to become 1981 Cheshire County League champions. Left in the summer of 1982 after a stint as Player-Caretaker Manager (November 1981 to January 1982) to become Player-Manager at Alsager Town.

Then joined Leek Town (1982-83:12+20,0), leaving in the 1984 close season and then serving Winsford United (84/85). Became a coaching assistant for Eastwood Hanley and also worked as a youth coach at Stoke City.
