Biography

Part of the Stoke Boys side that reached the finals of English Schools Trophy, Bob featured for Stoke City's youth team before moving to Port Vale and then Hanley Town (80/81). Whilst with Hanley, signed for Nantwich under dual registration in September 1980, debuting in the 1-0 FA Cup replay win at Winterton Rangers, 03/09/1980.

Went on to serve Oswestry Town (82/83), Welshpool, Congleton Town (83/84:30), Leek Town and Eastwood Hanley (86/87) before joining Gresley Rovers on loan in April 1987. The move became permanent in September 1987 and he helped Rovers to the 1991 FA Vase Final. After four seasons he returned to Eastwood and then joined Leek Town (91/92:15) in February 1992. Best remembered at Leek for biting Neil Baker's nose during a ‘disagreement' whilst he was playing for Eastwood!

Returning to Gresley in July 1992, he won the Manager’s Player of the Year Award, followed by the Players’ Player of the Year award in 93/94. In all, made 400 appearances for Gresley, leaving the club in June 1995. A bricklayer by trade, a work injury ultimately meant he was unable to carry on playing football.
