Biography

Gained League experience with Colchester United (1966-69:18+3,4lge) after serving as an apprentice, making his League debut as a 16 year old in a 2-0 home win over Bournemouth, 27/12/1966.
Moved north to Workington (1968-70:41+1,11lge) in February 1969 and then signed for Hartlepool United (70/71:8+3,0) in the summer of 1970. Dropped into non-league football with Stafford Rangers (71/72) where he was part of the 1972 FA Trophy winning squad.
Joined Nantwich in the summer of 1972, making his debut in the 1-0 home defeat to Hyde United, 12/08/1972. Re-joined Stafford (74/75) before serving Hednesford Town and then returned to Essex, appearing for Heybridge Swifts and Chelmsford City.
Appointed Player-Manager of Coggeshall Town in 1978, he held the reins for five seasons before signing for Wivenhoe Town (1983-86:82,13) in July 1983 where he remained until May 1987. Went on to have spells with Little Oakley, Coggeshall, Witham Town, Alresford Colne Rangers and Stanway Rovers briefly returning to Wivenhoe at the age of 41 at the beginning of the 91/92 campaign. Managed their Reserves during 92/93 prior to becoming First Team boss of Stanway.
A soundproof engineer, his father was the former Portsmouth striker Bert Barlow who was a 1939 FA Cup winner alongside ex-Nantwich winger Freddie Worrall.
