Biography

A stalwart for Stoke City in the 1960s, Tony joined Nantwich in July 1974, being named club captain and making his debut in a 1-1 home draw with Leek Town, 17/08/1974. A reliable left-back, he was amateur before signing professional terms with Stoke (1957-69:473,4) on his 17th birthday. While with the Potters, he was capped by England at youth and under-23 level and won the first of three full England caps against Wales in October 1959.
A £10,000 fee took him to Bury (1970-71:29,0 Lge) in October 1970 but he then enjoyed a stint in South Africa with Hellenic of Cape Town.
Returning to England in October 1973, he signed for Stafford Rangers before Colin Hutchinson tempted him to join the Dabbers. His time at Jackson Avenue was short lived and he hung up his boots soon afterwards and ran a newsagents in Blythe Bridge.
