Biography

A youth player with Stoke City, Stockport County and Chesterton PSA, Stan joined Port Vale (1954-56:63,21) in May 1950 but had to wait until 27/09/1954 to make his League debut at Doncaster Rovers. The centre forward moved on to Crewe Alexandra (57/58:29,6) in July 1957 and a £250 fee then took him to Oldham Athletic (57/58:4,0lge),
With a promising career outside the game, he gave up being a full-time professional, signing for Witton Albion (1958-60:92,60). His phenomenal strike rate continued after a £75 fee took him to Macclesfield Town (1960-62:123,92) in October 1960. He then joined Stafford Rangers, managing the Boro from August 1964 to May 1965.
Signed for Nantwich from Eastwood Hanley (1966-67) in December 1967, scoring the only goal on his debut - a home clash with New Mills, 02/12/1967. His stay at London Road proved to be short-lived as he was appointed Player-Manager of Sandbach Ramblers (1967-68) later that month.
Also played for Runcorn and New Brighton and managed Winsford United, Alsager Town and Barnton (75/76).
