Biography

Ernie assisted Crewe Villa before joining Crewe Alexandra in March 1955, turning out for their ‘A’ team in the Mid-Cheshire League. The outside right signed for the Dabbers in the summer of 1955, making his debut the 2-1 win at Congleton Town Reserves, 20/08/1955. Joined Crewe Rovers from Shavington United during the 57/58 season.

Re-joined Shavington (58/59) before returning to London Road during the 1959 close season. Took up refereeing and later was a great servant to the club as trainer before becoming joint-manager with Dave Cooke for the 84/85 campaign. Brother of Arthur and England international Frank.
