Biography
Alan was a versatile half-back and inside-forward who played for Nettlebank Villa before joining Port Vale as an amateur in February 1941. Signed as a professional in December 1942 and became a regular for Port Vale (1946-51:179,31) before being transferred to Stoke City (1951-54:115,6) in September 1951 in exchange for Albert Mullard and £10,000.
In July 1957, returned to Port Vale (1957-58:19,0) as a part-time professional after a spell at Bangor City (1955-56). Appeared for Northwich Victoria (60/61:5,3) before being appointed Player-Manager of Nantwich in the summer of 1961. Also coached juniors at Vale Park.
