Biography

A prolific marksman wherever he played, Cliff first joined Nantwich straight from school but gave up the game for a while due to back trouble. Had a stint with Northwich Victoria (63/64:6,0), before helping the Dabbers to the 1963/64 Mid-Cheshire League title.

Stepped up to assist Stafford Rangers in their 64/65 Cheshire County League campaign, returning to Nantwich the following season. Served Eastwood Hanley in 66/67 and again the following season when he netted 40 goals and was selected for the Mid-Cheshire League representative side.

Top scored when he again re-joined the Dabbers on the club’s return to the Cheshire County League in 68/69, earning a transfer to Chorley in the summer of 1969. Released by Chorley in November 1970, he briefly returned to Northwich (70/71:2,0) and top scored for Leek Town in 73/74, leaving to join Sandbach Ramblers (74/75) in the summer of 1974, returning to become Manager at Leek Town (75/76).

Was Manager of Eastwood Hanley, later briefly holding the reins at Nantwich (1st March to 30th August 1986) and in the summer of 1989 was appointed Manager of Mid-Cheshire League side Kidsgrove Athletic, guiding them into the NW Counties League in the summer of 1990 season before resigning at the end of 1990.
Ran the Bleeding Wolf pub in Scholar Green and Ash Inn at Mow Cop, sadly passing at the age of 82.
