Biography
Steve started as an apprentice with Crewe Alexandra (1981-82:23+4,0), making his League debut at home to Torquay United, 06/09/1981. Joined Nantwich midway through the club’s inaugural season in the NW Counties League, making his debut in the 1-0 defeat at Leek Town, 05/02/1983. After captaining the club, he left Jackson Avenue and spent the summer in Finland with Ekenas IF.
Signed for Oswestry Town (83/84), switching to Macclesfield Town (1984-91:271+2,37) in January 1985, serving the Silkmen over seven seasons. An exciting and skilful midfield player, ‘Hano’was a member of the 86/87 Northern Premier League Championship side and represented England at semi-professional level. On leaving Moss Rose he joined the backroom staff at Chester City and also played for Stafford Rangers (93/94:13,1lge). Outside of football worked as a postman.
