Biography
Billy was a Scotland Schoolboy international who signed for Leeds United in January 1972. After a single substitute appearance, he joined Huddersfield Town (74/75:15,1lge) in September 1974 moving on to Yorkshire rivals Bradford City (1975-76:60,11lge) in June 1975.
The diminutive Scot signed for Crewe Alexandra (77/78:38,2) in August 1977 but at the age of just 23, he bowed out of League football. Joined Congleton Town (80/81:1,1), switching to Whitchurch Alport (1980-81) and following Manager Pete Gowans to Nantwich the summer of 1982. Named club captain, he made his debut in Nantwich’s inaugural game in the NW Counties League - a 4-0 home defeat to Rhyl, 14/08/1982.
Subsequently returned to Whitchurch, playing for Alport into his 40s and amassing over 400 appearances which earned him a place in the Shropshire club’s Hall of Fame.
