Match Report

Nantwich Town came from behind to earn a point away at Scarborough Athletic.

In a game affected by strong winds in North Yorkshire, the Dabbers showed mental toughness to secure a deserved draw and stay in the hunt for the play-offs. Both sides huffed and puffed for the first 40 minutes with the hosts penning Nantwich back in their half for much of the period.

And a moment of class gave Scarborough the lead on 40 minutes after Troy Bourne conceded a free-kick 25 yards out. Ryan Watson stepped up and smashed the ball into the top corner giving Greg Hall no chance.

With the wind behind after the break, Nantwich took the game to the hosts early in the second period with Sean Cooke pulling the strings.

And it was Cooke who helped set up the equaliser on 60 minutes, his cross was seized on by Joe Mwasile who steered it past the keeper to make it 1-1 (pictured).

Mwasile almost grabbed a second a minute later when he was played through but fired his effort into the side netting.

Cooke then created a three on two attack but instead of squaring he shot at goal and Tommy Taylor saved to his left.

Cooke also had a couple of sighters late on from free kicks which were well saved or flew over the bar. And despite a late red card for Joe Malkin after a melee in the Scarborough box, both sides could not find the winner and it ended 1-1.

The draw leaves Nantwich in seventh place in BetVictor Northern Premier League, four points off the play offs but with games in hands on some of their rivals.
