Nantwich Town suffered the away day blues again at Cheshire rivals Warrington Town.

The Dabbers had hoped to gain revenge for their promotion play-off defeat by The Yellows back in May. But Warrington edged a closely-fought encounter 3-1 thanks to more clinical finishing in the early stages.

Nantwich were caught cold in the chill winter air and found themselves two-nil down inside the first nine minutes.

A Warrington corner found Mark Roberts at the back post unmarked and he nodded in past Greg Hall.

Nantwich had barely recovered before the hosts doubled the lead. Mackreth got down the right hand side and sent in a fine cross which found Ben Garrity who headed home at the back post once again.

The crazy start to the game continued just 60 seconds later when Nantwich pulled a goal back. Joe Mwasile powered down the right hand side and cut it back for Sean Cooke to slide it home (pictured).

Mwasile had a chance to level on 17 minutes but his low shot was well saved.

Warrington had a couple of claims for penalties waved away before the break, as Nantwich managed to cling on to their hosts’ coat-tails.

But within 10 minutes of the restart, Warrington restored their two-goal advantage. Good work from Mackreth who fed the ball to Garrity and his lay off was finished well by Bohan Dixon.

Luke Walsh and Ricardo Fuller came off the subs’ bench for Nantwich as they looked for a way back into the match.

And it was Cooke who almost found the key with a stunning 71st minute free-kick which produced an equally fine save from McMillan as it headed towards the top right corner.

Walsh and Troy Bourne also wasted good chances later in the second half, and the hosts managed to see out time for victory in front of more than 500 supporters.
