Match Report

Nantwich Town secured a spot in their third consecutive Cheshire Senior Cup Final after a fine 3-0 semi-final victory over Stockport County.

Inspired by man of the match and former Stoke City star Ricardo fuller, the Dabbers dominated their opponents in gusty conditions at the Weaver Stadium.

Both sides had chances in the first half as they adapted to the swirling wind, with Will Jaaskelainen pulling off a couple of fine saves.

Fuller pulled the strings in attack for Nantwich and they took the lead right on half-time. Sean Cooke’s fine free-kick cannoned back off the upright, and Jamie Morgan was first to react to tap the rebound in.

And three minutes after the restart, the Dabbers doubled their advantage. Cooke delivered a teasing corner, which fell to the feet of Joel Stair who fired in from inside the six-yard box.

Nantwich created more chances early in the second period, but Stockport also proved a danger through Bell and Warburton.

Nantwich were awarded a penalty on the hour mark when Fuller was played in by Hughes only to be felled in the box. But Stockport keeper Ormson made a decent save from Toby Mullarkey’s spot-kick.

Fuller and Cooke both tested Ormson later in the half, and then on 81 minutes Nantwich sealed their place in the final with a third goal. A flowing move saw Cooke set up Callum Saunders perfectly on the run who slotted (pictured) past Ormson into the bottom right corner.

Both sides created chances in the final 10 minutes, but Nantwich eased through with a fine display.
